CAREGIVING IDEAS WELLNESS By modernagetv / December 27, 2018 Share Tweet Pin Share Share As they often say, the years seem to go by faster as we grow older. It feels so true, doesn’t it? As we ring in another year, I thought it would be a good time to talk about starting your or your loved ones’ care plan. That starts with having the initial conversation. In today’s episode, I share 5 ways in which you can initiate this critical and important conversation about how you would want to be cared for in the event of an accident or illness. It doesn’t have to be a morbid or sad discussion. I think you will find how it can ultimately bring you closer to the ones you love. If you haven’t thought about it seriously for yourself or don’t know what you would want in the event of a crisis, this is a good time to think about it. Since my parents got sick, I made the conscious decision I didn’t want to be cared for in the same way. I don’t want extreme measures taken to extend my life. I value my independence above everything. For others, it might be different and that’s awesome. But think how important it is to let others know how you would want to be treated in the event of a crisis. And think how awful it would be NOT to tell them because you were embarrassed or just wanted to avoid the conversation. And now they are responsible for making those life decisions on your behalf. I hope these practical tips can help you ease and open up the communication pathways. As we continue to develop this series, we want to hear from you. What is important to you?
